40 years on, we pay homage to a drum machine that changed music forever.

Manufactured by Roland Corporation between 1980-1982, the TR808 analog synthesized drum machine was not an instant success. Four decades later, it was responsible for more hit tracks and albums than any other drum machine, becoming the cornerstone of emerging electronic, dance, and hip hop genres.

Popularized on early hits such as: “Sexual Healing” by Marvin Gaye and “Planet Rock” by Africa Bambaataa, the “808” went on to feature in tracks by Run-DMC, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, Whitney Houston, Talking Heads, Phil Collins, Kanye West, Damon Albarn, Diplo, Fatboy Slim, David Guetta and New Order - to name just a few.

Sales proceeds from the Roland x ZANEROBE '808' Tribute Collection will go towards funding six scholarships to the 1500 Sound Academy valued at US$34,000. All applicants welcome, click here to apply.
